Description of sill execution

A-section

1. Report to a judge, examination. Passing by a group of people, movement near a trainer at dog’s lead.

At the beginning of the trials by judge’s command a trainer and a dog come up to him. Then they takes the initial position ( a trainer is standing quietly, a dog is sitting at his left leg). A trainer must call his own name and dog’s full name distinctly. A judge collates a dog’ brand number with the brand number indicated in the application. Then examination of a dog is conducted. Bite and tooth-formula test, and presence of testicles (males) as well are the obligatory requirements. A trainer and a dog at on a lead of 1,5 m-length pass by a group consisting of 4 or more people. People should behave themselves naturally, and not demonstrate fear or aggressiveness. If it is necessary, a judge may reiterate testing of a dog. Then a trainer and a dog:

  • go quietly along the perimeter of a sector 30 õ 20 in size, turning in different directions (to the right, to the left and round), and demonstrate different kinds of movement (general, sporting, slow, running) at 15 m-distance ;
  • stop and demonstrate turns to the right, to the left and round on a place.

A dog should go quietly near a trainer at his left leg {dog’s shoulder is to be on the level of a trainer’s knee). It is allowed to give a command at the beginning of movement, at change of speed or direction, at turns in movement and at a place. During movement a trainer holds dog’s lead by his left hand and doesn’t pull it. The skill is carried out without assistance; if it is necessary, a judge may correct trainer’s work.

The highest raiting is 5 marks.

The rating is lowered for:falling behind, running ahead, any deviation, pushing a trainer aside and hampering movement.

2. Movement near a trainer without a lead, attitude to shooting.

By judge’s command a trainer unfastens a lead and takes it away. The skill is carried out as the previous one. Dog’s attitude to shooting is checked when moving near a trainer without a lead. They shoot two times out of a starting pistol at 5 seconds-interval at 15 m-distance from a dog. A dog should be indifferent to shooting.

The highest rating is 20 marks.

The rating is lowered for: falling behind, running ahead, any deviation, pushing a trainer aside and hampering movement. Attitude to shooting is estimated according to the General Regulations, item 6.

3. Attitude to a muzzle.

A dog should be indifferent to a muzzle, it shouldn’t resist when putting a muzzle on and not take it off (a muzzle may be of any kind, but not of a loop-type). Attitude to a muzzle is checked during the execution of not less than two skills (to a judge’s discretion). To check this skill the alike exercises are chosen for all dogs that take part in the trials.

Note: Exercises, recommended to check this skill are the following: passing by a group of people, and calling a dog up.

The highest rating is 5 marks.

The rating is lowered for: any resistance when putting a muzzle on, an attempt to take a muzzle off, change of the behaviour when wearing a muzzle.

4. Dog’s laying.

By judge’s command a trainer begins to move. A dog is in the “Heel!”-position without a lead. In 15 metres a trainer gives a dog the command “Down!”, it is allowed to stop when giving a command. A dog should take the required position by the first command and not change it, and stay at its place till the next command is given. A trainer goes aside from a dog at 15 m-distance, by judge’s command he turns to a dog and goes back to it, then he takes the initial position.

The highest rating is 10 marks.

The rating is lowered for: any change of the position without a command (up to 5 marks), false position, slow execution of the skill and distraction.

5. Dog’s sitting.

By judge’s command a trainer begins to move. A dog is in the “Heel!”-position without a lead. In 15 metres a trainer gives a dog the command “Down!”, it is allowed to stop when giving the command. A dog should take the required position by the first command and not change it, and stay at its place until the next command is given.

6. Coming up to a trainer.

A trainer gives a dog the command “Sit!” or “Down!”, then goes forward at 15 m-distance. By judge’s command he calls a dog up to him. A dog should run up to a trainer quickly by the first command and sit down in front of him. Then by a commmand a dog should take the initial position. It is allowed for a dog to sit down at trainer’s left leg when finishing execution of this skill.

The highest rating is 5 marks.

The rating is lowered for: slow execution of the skill, coming up without a command, absence of sitting.

7. Fetching.

A dog is at trainer’s left leg. A trainer shows a dog an object it must fetch, then gives a dog the command “Sit!” and throws an object forward, not closer than at 10 m-distance. After short staying-power, by judge’s command, a trainer sends a dog to fetch an object. A dog should run up to the thrown object by the first command, take it and come up to a trainer quickly; then it should sit down in front of a trainer keeping an object by the teeth until a trainer takes it by the command. Then, by the command, a dog should take the initial position. It is allowed for a dog to sit down at trainer’s left leg when finishing execution of this skill.

The highest rating is 15 marks.

The rating is lowered for: absence of staying-power,a slow execution of the skill, distraction, playing with an object, additional influence and for assisting a dog (up to 5 marks for every violation). If a dog doesn’t fetch an object, the skill is considered as failed, and a dog gets no marks.

8. Staying-power, attitude to shooting.

Dog’s staying-power is checked when another dog carries out obedience skills. A trainer makes a dog lie and steps aside at 10 m-distance standing with his face to a dog. A trainer stays at the place determined by a judge till another dog finishes to carry out the skills of item 2 of A-section.

The highest rating is 10 marks.

The rating is lowered for: any change of the position without going away from a place. If a dog goes away at more than 3 m-distance from a place before the end of skill execution, the skill is considered as failed and a dog gets no marks.

9. Negotiating obstacles (a track and field barrier, a balance beam, a through ladder, a blind fence of 1,5 m-height or a sloping wall of 1,6 m-height, or a jump forward at 1,5 m-distance).

The voice commands and gestures.

Dog’s testing on negotiating obstacles may be conducted in any succession. A trainer makes a dog sit in front of an obstacle not further than at 3 m-distance, and then sends a dog to negotiate it. Then a trainer goes round an obtacle from the right, not moving ahead of a dog, calls a dog up to him and goes on moving towards another obstacle. It is forbidden to assist a dog when negotiating an obstacle. A dog must negotiate an obstacle by the first command. It must negotiate a track and field barrier without touching it by feet, climb over a blind fence and a sloping wall clutching at the upper edge of a fence or a wall by the front paws, and jump down from the other side a fence or a wall. A dog climbs up a balance beam by a ladder, gets it over and goes down from the other side of a ladder. A trainer goes behind a dog or near it. A dog climbs up a ladder from one side and goes down from another. A trainer moves along the ladder. not going ahead of a dog, then calls a dog up and goes on moving towards another obstacle, or until a judge gives a command.

The highest rating is 5 marks for every obstacle.

The rating is lowered for: slow, hesitating execution of the skill, other attempts.

B-section

1. Searching of the locality.

The place to carry out this skill must be approximately of 30 õ 40 m-size (+5 m). Three objects of 2 õ 5 õ 15 cm-size (not bigger) with trainer’s smell put on are used to carry out this skill.
By judge’s command a trainer and a dog go to a shelter. An assistant puts three objects on a designated place at 15-20 m-distance from each other in such a way that they are unseen to a trainer and a dog when moving. Before searching a trainer informs a judge about the way a dog shows a found object. A trainer takes the initial position and sends a dog to search a place, and moves along the searched place, in the middle of it, conducting the search. A trainer should give the commands and gestures accurately, move along the searched place and control a dog properly. A dog must search a place quickly by the zigzag trajectory, find and show the objects. This skill must be carried out in six minutes.

The highest rating is 40 marks.

The rating is lowered for: every unfound object - 10 marks, uninterested search. If a dog searches a place more than six minutes, it gets no marks.

2. Detention.

A trainer and a dog without a lead go to a place determined by a judge. An assistant is in a shelter, at 15-20 m-distance from a trainer and a dog. By judge’s instruction a trainer gives a dog the command “Heel!” and begins to move towards a shelter. Suddenly an assistant goes out of a shelter and attack a trainer, fighting is not allowed. A dog must attack an assistant and catch a tight hold of him. At this moment an assistant beats a dog twice with a riding-crop. He beats it on the withers or on a shoulder-blade. Voice encouragement of a dog is allowed. By judge’s instruction an assistant stops attacking. A dog must stop gripping by the first command or without it. A trainer comes up to a dog and holds it by a collar. An assistant attracts dog’s attention and runs off at 30 m-distance in the direction determined by a judge, then by judge’s command he turns round and runs towards a dog shouting and making threatening movements. After that a trainer, by judge’s command, puts a dog into detention; a trainer should stay at his place. If a dog makes a grip properly, an assistant, after short resistance, stops it (beating is imitated when fighting). A dog must stop gripping by the first command or without it and guard an assistant. By judge’s instruction a trainer comes up to an assistant, takes a riding-crop away and fixes a dog in the “Heel!”-position.

Then the side escorting of an assistant to a judge follows it (an assistant is to the left of a dog), after that a trainer and a dog leave a ring ground. If a dog in spite of the frequent commands, doesn’t stop a grip and leave an assistant, a trainer, by judge’s instruction, comes up to a dog quickly and takes it away.

The skill is considered as failed, if:

  • a dog doesn’t stop bite work after the fourth command (including the allowed ones);
  • a dog is made to stop bite work by force.

The highest rating is 60 marks.

The rating is lowered for: a weak, not active grip, absence of alert when escorting; the frequent commands.
