General regulations

1. The minimum admissible age is 15 months.

2. The skills that are tested on the General Training Course:

  • general impression (is estimating during the show);
  • dog’s movement near a trainer (is checking during the show);
  • bite demonstration and dog’s attitude to a muzzle;
  • sitting, laying, stand of a dog ( the skills are checked in a comlex);
  • dog’s coming up to a trainer and going back to a place;
  • giving an object to a trainer;
  • stopping of undesirable actions;
  • negotiating obstacles (a track and field barrier, a blind fence, a through ladder, a trench or a balance beam; negotiating a sloping wall of 1,6 m-height and 1,5 m-width is also possible);
  • dog’s attitude to shooting.

3. Dog’s staying-power when the skills “place” and “attitude to a muzzle”are checking (up to 30 seconds, other skills - up to 15 seconds).Time count of the staying-power starts with dog’s execution of a command.

4. Skill testing may be conducted in any succession, except of the skills that are checked in a complex or simultaneously.

Description of skill execution

1. Dog’s movement near a trainer.

The voice command ”Heel!”, a gesture.

After the report a trainer, by judge’s instruction, demonstrates dog’s turns from its place (to the right, to the left and round), then a judge checks dog’s work at stops, change of the direction and movement speed when moving from one place to another. A dog must move quietly near a trainer, at his left leg (dog’s shoulder should be on a level with a trainer’s knee). At stops a dog should sit down at trainer’s left leg, parallel to him and not tumble down (without the command “Sit!”). The command “Heel!” is given at the beginning of movement, at change of speed and direction, at turns in movement, at a place and at a stop.The command is considered as not carried out if a dog moves aside from the trainer more than at 2 m-distance (the distance between a dog and a trainer is more than 2m).

2. Bite demonstration and dog’s attitude to a muzzle.

By judge’s command a trainer and a dog should:

  • come up to a judge and stop;
  • demonstrate dog’s bite, then put on a muzzle, give the command “Walk!” and begin to move in any direction;
  • call a dog up, take off a muzzle (a muzzle may be of any kind, but not of a loop-type).

A dog must be indifferent to a muzzle, mustn’t resist an attemt to put it on again and not resist bite demonstration. If a dog refuses to demonstrate bite, it will be impossible to examine dog’s teeth. The skill “attitude to a muzzle “ is considered as failed, if it is impossible to put on a muzzle, or, if a dog takes it off or cann’t stop trying to take it off in spite of a trainer’s command.

3. Sitting, laying and stand.

The voice commands “Sit!”, “Down!” and “Stand!”, a gesture. A trainer leaves a dog at its place in the “Sit!”-position, goes aside from it at 15m-distance and gives a dog the commands (by voice and a gesture simultaneously) making it take the required position. Every skill must be carried out twice out off different positions. By the first command a dog must take the required position, not change it and not move ahead, and stay in this position until another command is given. If a dog changes a position without a trainer’s command, a trainer should make a dog take the required position.

The comlex of skills is considered as failed, if a dog moves aside at more than 5m-distance in all positions. Frequent commands caused by distraction and given to a turned away dog (inopportune commands) are considered as trainer’s mistake. A dog is punished for distraction only. Frequent commands without any necessity, for instance, a command that is given when carrying out another one, make trainer’s rating lower, but don’t influence dog’s rating on condition that the commands are given not to fix a dog in the required position.

4. Dog’s coming up to a trainer.

The voice commands “Come!”, “Heel!”, a gesture.

If it is necessary to call up a dog , a trainer gives the command “Come!” (by voice and gesture) and calls up a dog . A dog must run up to a trainer quickly and sit down at his left leg (it is not necessary for a dog to go round a trainer).It is admitted for a dog to sit down in front of a trainer when coming up to him; then a dog must sit down at trainer’s left leg, when the command “Heel!” is given. The skill is considered as failed , if a dog doesn’t come up to a trainer within 15 minutes when the first command was given. It is allowed to call a dog by name to attract its arttention, when calling up a dog after the command “Walk!” till the command “Come!”; the rating is not lowered, the coming up-time is counting from the moment when the command is given

5. Going back to a place.

The voice command “Place!”, a gesture. A trainer makes a dog lie down by the command “Down!”, puts an object in front of it, gives the command “Place!” and goes forward from a dog for 15 minutes.Then, by judge’s coomand, he:

  • calls up a dog by the voice command “Come!” and a gesture (after 30 seconds-staying-power);
  • makes a dog take its place by the voice command ”Place!” and a gesture (after 15 seconds- staying- power).

By the first command a dog must run up to a trainer quickly, and then, by the first command, come back to its place and lie down at 1m-distance from an object it left. A trainer comes up to a dog after 30 seconds-staying-power and gives the command “Sit!”; till this moment a dog should be in the “Sit!”-position. The skill is considered as failed, if a dog doesn’t come back or lies down at more than 2 m- distance from an object it left.

6. Giving an object to a trainer.

The voice commands “Fetch!” and “Give!”, a gesture. A dog is at trainer’s left leg. A trainer shows any object to a dog, gives the command “Sit!” and throws an object in fron of him (at 10 m-distance or more). After some staying-power a trainer sends a dog to fetch an object by the command “Fetch!”and by a gesture. A dog must run up to a thrown object, take it , come up to a trainer quickly and sit down with an object in its teeth at trainer’s left leg, in front of him. After some staying-power, by the command “Give!”, a dog must give an object to a trainer. If a dog sits down in front of a trainer, a trainer should take an object and give the command ”Heel!”, a dog must sit down near a trainer immediately (it is not necessary for a dog to go round a trainer). If a dog doesn’t fetch an object and throws it at 1m-distance from a traner, the skill is considered as failed.

7. Stopping of undesirable actions.

The voice command “Out!”.

There are two ways to check this skill (on trainer’s discretion they choose one of them):

  • a dog is forbidden to take food from a trainer;
  • a dog is forbidden to take an object from a trainer.

In the first case a trainer makes a dog sit down near to him by the command “Sit!” and gives a dog (on the right palm) a piece of dainty for several times. By judge’s command a trainer, when giving a next piece, gives the command “Out!”. After 5 seconds-staying-power a trainer takes the dainty away. In the second case a trainer sends a dog to fetch a thrown object. Then by judge’s instruction he gives the command “Out!”. When a dog carries this command out, he comes up to the object and takes it away. A dog must quickly stop the actions it was doing by the first command. If a dog takes dainty (an object), it must throw it away by the command “Out!”. If a dog goes on carrying out the actions it was doing before (when two forbidding commands are given), the skill is considered as failed. If it is impossible to test a dog by the method a trainer chose, a judge must use another one.

8. Negotiating obstacles.

The voice command “Over!” and a gesture for a track and field barrier, a blind fence or a sloping wall; the command “Mush!” and a gesture - for a ladder, a beam and a trench. Dog testing on negotiating obstacles may be conducted in any succession. By judge’s command a trainer comes up to an obstacle and makes a dog negotiate it by a command and a gesture. It is not necessary for a dog to sit in front of an obstacle. When a dog negotiate an obstacle, a trainer goes round to the right of it, calls up a dog and they both move to another obstacle.

It is not allowed to assist a dog. A dog must negotiate an obstacle by the first command. If an attempt is failed, a dog is allowed to have two other ones. A dog should negotiate a track and field barrier without touching. A trainer crosses lines of a barrier, of a blind fence or of a sloping wall, or a trench, only when a dog touches the ground. A dog climbs up a balance beam by a ladder, passes it quickly and comes down from the other side of it. A trainer goes after a dog, or near it along a beam.

A dog goes up a ladder from one side of it and goes down from another. A trainer goes after a dog along a ladder and then keeps on moving with a dog by judge’s command. The complex is failed, if a dog doesn’t negotiate one of the obstacles, or, if a trainer assists a dog, or, if a dog jumped into the space between the stages. Note: It is possible to negotiate a sloping wall or a trench by a jump without support (it depends on dog’s size and breed).

9. Dog’s attitude to shooting.

No command.

This skill is testing when a dog carries out any other skill of the General Training Course, except moving near a trainer or giving an object to a trainer. A judge determines a skill at which dog’s attitude to shooting is checked, this skill is the same for all tested dogs. Dog’s attitude to shooting is tested immediately, when a dog carries out the skill, or by judge’s instruction, when the skill is carried out again. A shot is made out of a starting pistol, by judge’s instraction, at 15m-distance from a dog, when it does not see it. If a dog stops to carry out the skill after a shot, a command is given again by judge’s instruction. If a dog demonstrates fear of shooting , steps aside from a trainer or stops to carry out the skill, or refuses to do it, the skill is considered as failed.
